Zahriya Zachary has been part of the Bethel Music since 2021. The Christian singer and worship leader was recently interviewed by CBN while she attended the KLOVE Awards, where her song ‘Stay’ was nominated for Breakout Single of the Year.

In the interview, she shared her healing from clinical depression five years earlier. She was in such a dark place, that she found herself pleading to God for help, because she didn’t know what to do.

Zahriya can’t explain what happened, but added, “I know that I’m living and walking in miracle.”

She added that her healing was instantaneous and she has proof because her medical tests radically changed after God’s supernatural intervention.

I was at a worship night, and I was actually leading worship, and I got prayed for, and I literally like, fell out on the ground for, like, probably a solid half hour,” Zahriya said.

And just got up and was like, ‘I don’t know what happened.’ It felt like it got ripped out of my chest by God,” she continued. “And it was really profound to get up, and I actually felt lighter, and I’ve never felt that same dark shadow ever since then, not to say that I haven’t had hard days.”

Her healing falls in line with one of the more curious descriptions of Jesus’ healing ministry found in Matthew. In Matthew 8:17, we read, “He took up our infirmities (astheneia), and bore our diseases” (NASV).

The verse talks about two different forms of healing, diseases and infirmities. Infirmities is the Greek word ‘astheneia’. While it describes weaknesses such as chronic sickness, it also refers to emotional or mental issues.

We see that expressed in the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, when he uses ‘astheneia’, to describe his first visit to Corinth.

He wrote, “I also was with you in weakness (astheneia) and fear, and in great trembling,” (1 Corinthians 2:3 NASV)

We see the mental and emotional symptoms as Paul was wracked with self-doubt, insecurity, and fear.

As we read the Gospels, we are amazed by the profound healings as the blind suddenly were able to see and the lame walked. These were very visible healings.

But in Matthew, the infirmities, which are the less visible and less dramatic emotional healings, are listed first.

It suggests that these unseen emotional wounds are equally important to Christ.

This verse describes a critical part of Jesus’ ministry, the Lord wants to heal our infirmities, our damaged emotions and mental health struggles.

The Greek word ‘lambano’ interpreted ’took up our infirmities’ by the NASV, means to take by the hand, to lay hold of and carry away.

Like Jesus did for Zahriya.
