You probably know AI (Artificial Intelligence) is something to argue about these days. AI data centers are starting arguments and public demonstrations. Many people just don’t want them. There are reasons for this, including problems with the environment. 

If you are interested, Internet research with terms like “AI” and “controversy” will bring up many news articles and videos.

Controversy. I don’t want to get involved in the arguments. Do you know, AI surveillance could track this article. So, for the record, I think there is something that we need to see about ourselves. I don’t want to get too deep into the AI arguments. You can find enough of them without me adding something more.

I recommend that we should all be informed about issues in the news, like AI and what it means in our lives and our future.

It’s good to be informed.

And here is more information: People are becoming concerned about public surveillance through AI. Imagine a world where giant computer systems, like monster robots, can track the smallest things in our lives.

Did we pay our taxes? Did a camera catch anyone speeding? Choose any detail; are you ready for the AI surveillance trackers? 

Apparently, they are ready for you and me. Some people claim that we are moving into a new world, and not a good one:

But wait! I have more to say. Something serious just happened in my neighbourhood as I was writing this, and it fits with the theme.

We heard some neighbors shouting, or at least one of them, a young woman. It was probably a break-up argument at the man’s outdoor birthday party. When I looked out at a neighboring apartment building, I saw the young woman shouting at the building, and probably her (ex)boyfriend was in there. 

And then I saw the cause of the noise. Workers had done some maintenance work, and they had not cleaned up completely. In one place there were pieces of broken concrete, many about fist size. The noise was from the woman throwing those large rocks at the apartment windows.

I was close enough to shout and be heard, and I warned her that the police would be called. She shouted and swore at me, and kept breaking windows, including must of the panes on the (ex)boyfriend’s car.

I am one of people who called the police, and I was advised to stay inside, until the police arrived. When the first police car showed up, I heard one last loud noise. The young woman was probably tasered, and I saw her laying face down, on the ground, and wearing handcuffs.

The young woman was then half carried to a police car and locked in the back seat.

So, who can we blame for that violent incident? The workers should have cleaned up after their work, and the boyfriend should have been a better man, but we all know the answer. The young woman will probably be convicted of a crime (at least one) and she will probably pay for all that damage.

She made a violent choice, and the resource rocks were waiting for her to throw.

With all the new AI resources now available, our leaders have new choices. In the Bible, we are told that we are coming to a time when:

It causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This  calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666. (Revelation 13: 16 to 18)

In translation; when the resources are available for economic control and oppression, those tools will be used, and the whole human race will be abused. God promised this about two thousand years ago, and now, we have arrived.

The fault or blame is us. The tools only help us to do more evil things. Remember the rocks added to the loud argument.

So, what is the AI controversy? 

Us. 

If someone put a loaded gun into my hand, I would only be guilty if I aimed and pulled the trigger. The choice is with human nature, and not the tool.

We are told this about ourselves:

[In the Old Testament] The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds; there is none who does good. The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt;, there is none who does good, not even one. (Psalms 1 to 3)

[In the New Testament] None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one. (Romans 3: 10 to 12)

Behind the technology threat is a spiritual one. Just give us the tools and we will use them.

If we continue reading Romans chapter 3, we learn the lesson that those protests about AI are really about human nature. In Japan, one airplane dropped an [atomic] bomb on the city of Hiroshima, and again another on the city of Nagasaki. If science gives us the terrifying technology, we will use it.

God needs to change us and our spiritual problem.
