According to Worldometer, a website that tracks a variety of statistics in real time, for the fourth year in a row, abortion is the leading cause of death in the world, the Christian Post (CP) reports.
According to Worldometer, there were over 44 million abortions in 2022.
Coming in second was communicable diseases which resulted in 13 million deaths, cancer which caused 8 million deaths, smoking which was blamed for 5 million, alcohol which resulted in 2.5 million deaths and AIDS which is blamed for 2 million deaths.
Though deaths due to COVID were included in the communicable disease category, on its own it only accounted for 1.2 million deaths in 2022. It barely beat out deaths from automobile accidents at over just one million and one million deaths due to suicide.
But CP noted that there is some disagreement on the total number of abortions performed in 2022. The World Health Organization (WHO), which ironically considers abortion an essential health service, puts the number at closer to 73 million.
