Last year, the church was shocked with news of a popular ‘so-called’ prophet taking information available on Facebook and passing it off as words of knowledge. He has since taken a leave of absence from his ministry.

Another was recently accused of plagiarizing other prophetic words and passing them off as his own. The latter behavior, unfortunately, has been going on for 2,500 years (Jeremiah 23:30).

But these type of activities make a mockery of the supernatural world that fills the pages of the Bible. Which is unfortunate, because this is the world God wants believers to live in.

A recent poll undertaken by CBN and the American Bible Society suggests that the Holy Spirit is shifting away from the glamor and lights of the TV evangelists, and towards average, everyday believing Americans.

The poll found that 48% of Americans stated they received a miraculous answer to prayer. Another 35% added that they have either witnessed or personally experienced divine healing.

When you focus specifically on Evangelical Christians, the percentage receiving miraculous answers to prayer jumps dramatically to 75%.

This research confirms what so many people have suspected but rarely seen documented at this scale,” said CBN’s Billy Halloween. “Americans aren’t just curious about the supernatural – they’re experiencing it. These numbers should spark a national conversation about what so many of our neighbors are witnessing firsthand.”

As we study the spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12, one thought rings loud and clear. Paul writes, “to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit” (verse 7).

Every believer who is filled with the Holy Spirit has at least one supernatural gift and probably more.

This means mechanics, school teachers, janitors, and waitresses should be moving in the gifts of healing, prophecy, words of knowledge, and the gift of faith .

It means that God wants all believers moving in the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit. This is not a realm reserved solely for TV evangelists and mega pastors.

This means the Holy Spirit wants to empower you.
