In a recent interview with Focus on the Family reported by CBN, comedic actress, Victoria Jackson spoke of how she shared her faith with fellow performers at Saturday Night Live (SNL).

Jackson, 66, worked with SNL between 1986 to 1992, a popular late night comedic variety show that started in 1975. It’s one of the longest running TV programs in America.

Jackson who attended Florida Bible College after high school before moving on to Auburn University to pursue acting was looking for ways to share her faith at SNL.

She found the Christmas season to be an opportune time to do just that. With many of the cast members having newer cars that included the latest entertainment device, a cassette player, Jackson gifted each performer with a cassette recording of the whole Bible.

She wrapped the gift and set it outside their ‘dressing room door.’ And it had an impact, two decades later, actor Kevin Nealon told Jackson that he still had those cassettes and had listened to them.

She also had a few interesting conversations with comedian Jon Lovitz, whose acting career also started at SNL.

Since he was a Jew, Jackson said, “I sent him a Jewish tract in a Christmas card… about, you know, Jesus was Jewish. Jesus is the Messiah and the Bible verses of prophecy that Jesus fulfilled...”

“Ever since that Christmas card, every time I would see Jon Lovitz, he would bring up Jesus,” Jackson recalled, “and he would say, ‘Um, you can’t be Jewish and Christian. It’s like oil and vinegar. They don’t mix.’ And I said, ‘Jon, Jesus was Jewish. Everyone and everything in the Bible is Jewish. The disciples are Jewish.’”

But she reached out beyond SNL. She contacted Johnny Carson after hearing he was having heart issues. Because she had made over 20 appearances on his popular Tonight Show, she was able to obtain his address. Jackson then sent him a care package, along with a tract.

Carson actually replied with a thank you card, quipping “Thank you for the care package. If it doesn’t work, I hold you personally responsible.”

Unfortunately, Jackson recently found out she has stage IV breast cancer, which has metastatisized and spread to other parts of her body. But she is not discouraged, instead she has been energized to share her faith with others in her field.

She is an answer to Jesus’ plea to pray for more workers, because the Harvest is ripe and the workers are few (Matthew 9:38). We are not called to evangelize the whole world, we are called to simply harvest the field that we are working and living on. For Jackson, it was SNL.
