Over the years, comedian Kevin Hart has often shared about the influence his Christian mother, Nancy, had on his life.

Hart, 46, started his career as a stand-up comic, and now is probably most famous for his movie roles, such as the Jumanji series. In 2015, Time Magazine included Hart in its list of the 100 most influential people in the world.

In a recent interview with Craig Robinson and Michelle Obama on their IMO podcast, Hart shared a humorous story about his mother.

Hart, who was just starting out in his stand up comedy career, was struggling financially. Until he developed his own unique comedic style, Hart was often booed off the stage early in his career.

During this low period, he often called home asking for financial help. He was actually receiving notifications that he would soon be booted from his rental apartment, because of late payments.

However, Nancy, who died in 2007, only agreed to help her son, if he started reading his Bible.

And she was like, ‘Well read the Bible. Talk to God about it,’” Hart recalled.

Mum, this ain’t no game. I get it” Hart said. “I get the spiritual side of it. I believe, okay? But right now they put a notice on the door. You need to help me out this month until I do these open mics next month.

Hart even lied to his mother and said he was reading the Bible.

But his mom just repeated what she had previously said and encourage her son to read the Bible.

As the problems worsened, in desperation Hart finally decided to crack open his Bible. When he opened it, several checks from his mother fell out.

The financial provision had already been provided.

In recent years, Hart has become more public about his faith. It was particularly noticeable after he was seriously injured in a near fatal car crash in 2019, Premier Christian News reported.

A friend was driving Hart’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda when it went down an embankment and crashed into a tree outside Malibu, California.

Hart, who was in the passenger seat, was seriously hurt. He ended up in the hospital with a serious back injury that required months of rehabilitation.

No matter how much you think you’re in control, you’re not in control,” Hart said at the time. “At the end of the day it can all be over.”

When God talks you’ve got to listen,” Hart continued. “I swear life is funny because some of the craziest things that happen to you end up being the thing you needed most.”

Hart added that the accident has given him a new perspective on life.
