A 3,300 year old Egyptian document on display at London’s British Museum confirms the Bible’s claim that there once a race of giants, the Daily Mail reports.

Throughout history there have been giants. Most are one-offs caused by a misfunctioning pituitary gland.

This includes the world’s current record holder, a Turkish farmer named Sultan Kösen, who stands 8’3”. His hands are over 11” long. His growth was sparked by a tumor on his pituitary gland.

Many of these individuals die young and often have health problems. In Sultan Kösen’s case, he needs crutches to walk.

The Bible also speaks of giants, but these were not one-offs, but rather a tribe of giants. These individuals were fully mobile and violent.

The 12 spies encountered them after Moses sent them in to spy out the Promised land:

And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them.” (Numbers 13:33 ESV)

These giants were called the Nephilim. They are first referred to in Genesis 6:4, in the lead up to the great flood.

But they were not the only ones.

Goliath was also not a one off and was connected to a race of giants known as Rapha (2 Samuel 21:18-22). A second giant, Bashan, the King of Og, was from a group called the Rephaim (Deuteronomy 3:11).

I suspect they were simply break off groups from the Nephilim.

While critics refer to these groups as myths, there is archaeological evidence they existed.

An ancient Egyptian document referred to as Anastasi I also speaks of giants.

This puts it within the time frame of Israel’s conquest of the Promised Land.

The Associates For Biblical Researchers (ABR) stated the document supports the Bible’s claim of giants in the Promised Land.

It was a letter written by Hori to another scribe during war time.

In his letter, Hori stated that the army encountered a dangerous group of giant warriors called the Shosu (also spelt Shasu) as it was negotiating a narrow Canaanite mountain pass:

‘The narrow defile is infested with Shosu concealed beneath the bushes; some of them are of four cubits or of five cubits, from head to foot, fierce of face, their heart is not mild, and they hearken not to coaxing. Thou art alone, there is no helper with thee, no army behind thee.’

ABR points out that an Egyptian cubit was about 20”. This meant the Shosu ranged in size from 6’8” to 8’6”.

This is particularly interesting when you consider that a main point in the letter regards the need for accuracy,’ ABR added in its analysis of the text.

Even though the Shosu, captured after the battle of Kadesh, are sitting on the ground they are clearly larger than their Egyptian guards.

These were the same people that the 12 spies encountered when they first spied out the promised land.

Considering the average size of a Jewish male was 5’2”, these giants were between two feet and four feet taller.

ABR also points to the portrayal Shosu in Egyptian wall reliefs. They were captured after the Battle of Kadesh in 1247 BC. Even though the Shosu prisoners are sitting on the ground, they are clearly larger than the Egyptian soldiers guarding them.

But aside from this, archaeologists have also found the actual remains of a race of giants, which I discuss in the following video:
