Mother’s refusal to let doctors remove her daughter from life support, rewarded as she awakens from a 5-year coma

Within three days after Jennifer Flewellen had lost consciousness after dropping her children off at school and smashing her car into a pole in 2017, doctors were recommending she be removed from life support, the Western Journal reports.

However, her mother, Peggy Means, refused to accept their prognosis.

“I said, ‘No, not as of today. We’re not going to do that.’ And then each day, they kind of encouraged me more, and I’d say, ‘No, it’s in God’s hands,’” Means said in an interview with ABC News.

Over the next five years, she continued to lobby on behalf of her daughter and stated that there were instances when she butted heads with the hospital staff as she fought for her daughter’s care and right to live.

But her persistence and faith paid off in August 2022 when Jennifer shocked everyone and laughed at her mother’s joke.

This was the beginning of her gradual return to consciousness. Today, Jennifer is living with her mom and on the road to recovery as she is going through a variety of therapies to restore her physical strength.
