J.K. Dobbins, 21, is a star running back with the Ohio State Buckeyes and some consider him a potential Heisman Trophy winner which honors the most outstanding football player in college football.
Though, Dobbins is not considered a leading candidate for the award, he is certainly in the conversation.
During the game, Gus Johnson, who was calling the game on behalf of the Fox Sports network, made a startling announcement about Dobbins. Johnson said that there was a player on the Ohio team, whose mother had nearly aborted her child but changed her mind at the last moment.
As the TV cameras focused on Dobbins, Johnson said:
“J.K. Dobbins’ mom became pregnant when she was 18 years old, she went to see the doctor because she was thinking about aborting the baby, but changed her mind.”

Johnson added that Maya later described J.K. as her “miracle baby.”
Then as if to add an exclamation mark on Johnson’s statement, Dobbins went on to have the best game of his college career, rushing for 211 yards on 31 carries, catching two passes for 49 yards and scoring four touchdowns leading his team over the Michigan Wolverines.
Dobbins was a standout running back for his high school team in La Grange, Texas before signing on with Ohio.
There is a verse in Jeremiah that speaks to both God’s thoughts on abortion and as well J.K. Dobbins’ potential.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart;
Jeremiah 1:5 NIV
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
The verse tells that God knows who we are before we are even conceived. God knows what He is creating.
In fact, the verse tells us that while he was still in the womb, God “appointed” Jeremiah to be a prophet. Not only did God know what Jeremiah would do, but also knew the extent of his gifting. It would be a big gift as he would be a prophet to the nations.
God sees our full potential, all that we can be, while we are still forming inside our mothers. Over 21 years ago, God already knew what Dobbins was capable of accomplishing.
According to a report in the Florida Times Union, Dobbins is not the only football player threatened to have his life derailed by abortion. Star college quarterback, Tim Tebow, had the same possibility hanging over his head.
While his parents were missionaries in the Philippines, his mother, Pam, contracted amoebic dysentery and was under treatment with some heavy-duty drugs. However, during the course of the treatment, the doctors found out that she was also pregnant.
They immediately stopped the drugs, but recommended that she abort her child because the baby was undoubtedly damaged by the drugs already administered. The doctor was also concerned about Pam’s health because she could no longer receive the drugs.
Pam refused.
