Why two YWAM missionaries chose to stay in Ukraine

CBN recently had a story on two missionaries, a husband and wife team, who chose after praying to stay in Kyiv during the Russian invasion despite the obvious danger.

Japhin is from India and his wife Marcia is from Germany, and they work with Youth With a Mission (YWAM).

The main focus of their ministry is providing food for those who are still in Kyiv, as their YWAM base now serves as a base for humanitarian aid.

CBN writes:

KYIV, Ukraine – When the war started and Russian bombs began falling on Kyiv, missionaries Marie and Japhin John had to decide whether to leave the capital.

“We had our bags packed because, it’s just like you are in rush, and there’s a new situation; all of a sudden, you wake up in the morning, you hear the sound of bombs, so you’re in a rush, a

“It was not an easy decision until we prayed. But once we prayed, it was a very easy decision,” Japhin added.

Japhin and his wife likened their ministry to a marriage that includes good times and bad.

“And when everyone is leaving, this is the time when we actually need to stay,” Marie added in her interview with CBN.

Having ministered and preached the Gospel in India, Japhin said that this was not the first time he has experienced danger.
