Shelby Cullom Davis, who works at the Institute for National Security and Foreign Policy, alleges that the Russian government has been funding many of the ‘radical environmental’ extremist groups in Europe. It is part of Putin’s strategy to make the EU become more dependent on Russian energy.
In an interview with Fox News, Davis said:
“The Russians actually fund some of the most rabid environmental groups in Europe because they sic them on the energy projects that aren’t Russian.”
And Davis is not the only one suggesting this. Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the former Prime Minister of Denmark and secretary-general of NATO, said much the same thing:
“I have met allies who can report that Russia, as part of their sophisticated information and disinformation operations, engaged actively with so-called non-governmental organisations – environmental organisations working against shale gas – to maintain European dependence on imported Russian gas.”
The pressure by environmental extremists has resulted in European governments cutting back nuclear energy and their oil and gas production. For the record, Russia supplies over 25% of Europe’s oil and 45% of its natural gas. READ: Can Canada help Europe kick its addiction to Russian oil and gas?
Deny, Deny, Deny
Of course, the environmental extremist groups across Europe deny receiving Russian funding.
But nevertheless, some have a real fondness for the
Russian ruble, err communism:
At a climate change demonstration held in Britain in the Fall of 2021, a spokesperson for Extinction Rebellion, who coincidentally also happens to be a member of a Marxist-Leninist group, said:
“Cuba shows that socialism is the only system capable of marshalling the organisation necessary for a sustainable future by returning the power to the working-class masses.”
Why Dr. Moore left Green Peace? Green on the outside, red on the inside.
Dr. Patrick Moore, a co-founder of Green Peace, explains that he left the environmental movement after it began embracing communism.
When ‘Global warming’ changed to ‘Climate Change’ and then changed to ‘Global Communism’
Of course, we can’t forget the statements that Andreas Malm, a professor of ecology at Lund University in Sweden, made during an interview with Jacobin, a leftist magazine.
Breitbart reports on some of Malm’s statements:
“There was a moment in March 2020 when many of us in the climate justice movement felt a degree of surprise to find that governments in Europe and elsewhere were prepared to basically shut down their entire economies in an effort to contain the pandemic,” Malm notes. “This is striking, given that the same states had never contemplated undertaking any kind of intervention in the economy for the sake of the climate crisis.” […]
“The whole strategic direction of Lenin after 1914 was to turn World War I into a fatal blow against capitalism,” he concludes. “This is precisely the same strategic orientation we must embrace today — and this is what I mean by ecological Leninism.”
Are European governments finally coming to their senses?
Having been pressured into untenable energy positions by Environmental extremists, the governments of Europe are slowly coming back to their senses.
NOTE: If left-wing politics is motivating the environmental movement in Europe, is the same thing happening in North America?
