According to a poll in March 2022, since the pandemic, Americans are not only becoming less trusting of politicians but also believe their elected officials have eroded Americans’ personal freedoms.
The NY Post reports that a new poll by Americans for prosperity and YouGov found:
- 60% believe politicians did a somewhat poor to very poor job in providing the data or reasons for the lockdowns (they didn’t feel they had to justify their decisions);
- 43% of Americans feel they are losing their freedom to protests;
- 42% of Americans don’t feel they have the liberty to express their opinions (leading to self-censorship); and
- 36% believe they are losing their rights to practice their religion.

Do as I say, not as I do politicians
As our politics veers left, our politicians will increasingly become more elitist and more totalitarian.
One of the primary indicators that this is happening is when we see our leaders turning into “do as I say, but not as I do politicians.”
They don’t believe the rules that they are forcing you to obey, apply to them. When caught, they always apologize (for getting caught), but it reflects a much more concerning attitude:

Politicians are not above the law
When Israel began complaining that they wanted a king like all the other countries, one of the first things that God warned these new political leaders is not to become elitists and believe they are above the law.
20 and not consider himself better than his fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left. (Deuteronomy 17: 20 NIV)
