According to The Voice of the Martyrs (VOM), the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has published a major rewrite of the Bible, that includes Jesus declaring Himself a sinner.
Charismanews reports that the CCP announced its plan for a new officially sanctioned version of the Bible in 2019, which would include incorporating socialist values into the text or removing any that conflict with communism.
The CCP officially released its communist-sanctioned version of the Bible in 2020.
One of the stories that saw a significant change involved the woman caught in adultery.
In the original story, the Pharisees dragged a woman caught in adultery before Christ, asking what should be done to her. Jesus told the crowd that anyone who was without sin could cast the first stone.
As the Pharisees slunk away, Jesus asked the woman who was condemning her. When she replied no one, Jesus said neither do I condemn you and then told her to go and sin no more
However, in the CCP’s version, the text is changed and Jesus declares Himself to be a sinner and then personally stones the woman.
The CCP is desperate to control Christianity and this translation is just part of this effort, as it is the only Bible version legally allowed in the communist country.
But it’s just symbolic of a broader attack on the Bible, being orchestrated around the world.
During the Black Lives Matter protests in Portland, Oregon, that went on nightly for several months in 2020, radical left-wing supporters actually stacked up Bibles and burnt them.
There is also a more insidious move afoot to deconstruct the Bible. It basically involves reinterpreting scripture to make it fit with our modern culture and values.
At its core, deconstructionism denies ‘absolute truth.’ Truth is what you believe it is. You have become your own god.
This has resulted in attempts to reinterpret Biblical passages and Greek and Hebrew words in light of a person’s amoral beliefs and having them mean the exact opposite of what they originally meant.
According to some deconstructionists, the Greek word Gehenna no longer refers to hell, but offers no proof, other than arguments intended only to confuse the reader.
Gehenna was a massive garbage pit located in the Valley of Hinnon outside of Jerusalem, where the Jews burnt sewage and flesh, including human bodies and other garbage. There was a constant stench and smoke curling up from the pit.
This was the same valley where the Jews sacrificed their children to Moloch (2 Kings 23:10).
Because of the rotting flesh, Gehenna was filled with maggots and worms, which Jesus referred to when he described a place where worms (maggots) do not die and where the fire is not quenched.
Then Jesus used this word, Gehenna, to describe hell:
And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell [Gehenna]. 48 ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ (Mark 9:47-48 ESV)
But these attempts to deconstruct the Bible are not new.
I remember years ago, while attending seminary, hearing the phrase that a “person’s morality determines their theology.”
