CBN recently interviewed a famous Indian actress, Jayasudha Kapoor, on her remarkable conversion to Christ.

Jayasudha, 65, who also serves as an MLA for India’s Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh, grew up in a famous acting family.

Since she started acting at the age of 12, Jayasudha has had roles in over 350 films and won 15 acting awards. Her career took off after she starred in a 1977 film entitled, Adavi Ramudu, which set box office records in India.

Growing up in a Hindu family, she became a Christian after nearly drowning in 1985 while on her honeymoon with her first husband, movie producer Nitin Kapoor, who died in 2017.

There were water activities at the resort in Bangkok, Thailand, but the Bollywood actress refused to join her husband because she could not swim and was terrified of water.

However, Nitin finally convinced Jayasudha to go on a Jet Ski ride with him. It was a busy day and the resort had run out of life jackets.

Jayasudha was on the back of the jet ski hanging onto her husband when she fell off. Gripped by fear, Jayasudha thought she was going to die.

Though she had grown up in a strong Hindu family, as she sank into the ocean, Jayasudha didn’t call out to her Hindu gods for help.

In that moment, I could have cried out to any Hindu god but when I opened my mouth, the name of Jesus came out,” Jayasudha told CBN.

Then as she plunged beneath the water, she saw sunbeams flashing through the seaweed surrounding her and then behind the sunbeams, she saw Jesus.

As she looked into Christ’s eyes, Jayasudha was overwhelmed by a deep sense of peace, and then she started floating to the surface. The next she remembers is her husband pulling her out of the water.

After that encounter with Christ, Jayasudha believed in Jesus but kept the decision secret from her family and fans until 2001, when she decided to go public with her decision.

At this point, her father had died and when she told her mom that she was a Christian, Jayasudha was shocked by her reaction.

He’s been waiting for you,” her mom said. “It’s time to go to the name of Jesus.

It took time for her fans to accept Jayasudha’s decision, but they did, and after hearing her testimony, many also believed in Christ.
