Arizona school board member says board should reject hiring teachers with Christian beliefs

A member of an Arizona School Board has stated that the board should reject hiring any teachers who hold sincere Christian beliefs, Fox News reports.

These views were allegedly made during a Feb 23, 2023 meeting of the Washington Elementary School District, when the board decided to end a contract with Arizona Christian University allowing it to place teaching students at the school to gain field experience.

According to Fox News, the anti-Christian sentiments were expressed by school board member, Tamillia Valenzuela, who at the same time claimed she supported religious freedom.

Fox News writes:

During the meeting, school board member Tamillia Valenzuela blasted the university over its Christian beliefs and said she was “disheartened” to learn about the contract that had been ongoing for five years.

Valenzuela describes herself as “a bilingual, disabled, neurodivergent Queer Black Latina… who loves a good hot wing (but only with the right ranch) and things that sparkle.”

“While I full-heartedly believe in the religious freedom and people being able to practice whatever faith that they have, I had some concerns regarding looking at this particular institution,” she said. “And I think it’s a really good time for us to take a moment and really pause about where our values lie.”

Other members of the school board echoes similar sentiments as they decided to end the partnership with the Christian university.

Is Venezuela grounded in her beliefs? Is it just okay for everything else in this country to be a right but not Christianity? What about our freedoms? And look at the state of this country, families, finances, schools, and everything else since this country has been pushing God out. I pray for the hearts of those taking Christ out to change and for His healing upon this land.
