The European Union (EU) is reportedly on track to release a digital ID for its citizens in the 27 countries that make up the EU, CBN reports.

Concerns are already being expressed about the new ID, which will come in the form of an app downloaded onto a person’s phone, and could potentially contain a person’s medical and financial information.

Some believe it will give governments and bureaucrats access to people’s personal information and others have described it as a ‘Trojan Horse’ that could easily open the door to government tyranny.

While the EU insists the ID will be voluntary and people are free to download the information they want to the app, critics point to the COVID passport as evidence of how quickly that can change.

A member of EU’s parliament, Cristian Terhes, who grew up under Hungarian communism had this to say about the new ID:

“Clearly we are witnessing right now, the ‘Chinafication’ of Europe, because we see what is happening in China right now with the social credit score, where the government is monitoring … all the people from the beginning to end, everything that they do, everywhere they walk. They control everything and watch everything. This is an example of tyranny.”

‘Chinafication’ is a reference to the social credit system developed by the Chinese Communist Party, which tracks people’s behavour online and in the real world. People are awarded points based on CPP-approved lifestyle and deleted points if they do things such things as criticize the party.

If a person’s points become too low, they are prevented from buying such things as a plane tickets.

A similar social credit system has already been set up in Rome, where residents receive rewards if they do things that will fight global warming such as riding a bike.

The Apostle John saw something similar to this in his vision of the end times:

¹⁶ Also it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave,^[a] to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, ¹⁷ so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. (Revelation 13:16-17 ESV)
