If you are concerned about end times events, this has been an interesting week. And it seems to be culminating with a massive asteroid, called Apophis, the god of Chaos, buzzing by earth sometime today.
In his explanation of the end times, Jesus warned about the terrors from the sky (Luke 21:11), and in his vision of the end times, the Apostle John saw an asteroid the size of a mountain slamming into one of the earth’s ocean destroying thousands of ships (Revelation 8:8-9).
So does a hundred-story asteroid classify as a mountain? On a side note, it will miss today, but astronomers warn that the ‘god of chaos’ is scheduled to make a return visit in 2068.
The Daily Mail explains:
A massive asteroid named Apophis after the Egyptian god of chaos will safely pass Earth – but experts warn it could still collide with Earth in 2068.
The 1,115ft (340 metre) wide space rock will be 9.9 million miles (16 million km) from Earth when it makes its closest approach at about 01:15 GMT on Saturday March 6.
Apophis was discovered on June 19, 2004 by astronomers at the Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona and since then it has been tracked as it orbits the sun.
If the massive space rock were to hit the Earth in 2068 the impact would be equivalent to 880 million tons of trinitrotoluene (TNT) exploding all at once.
But this is not the only birth pang that Jesus warned about that made an appearance this week.
As mentioned in previous posts, we have seen several volcanos erupting around the world (Guatemala, Indonesia, Italy and imminent in Iceland) that the Prophet Joel warned about (Joel 2:30).
But in addition to that, Jesus also warned of earthquakes (Luke 21:11), and this past week, Iceland experienced over 18,000 earthquakes, that could suggest two volcanoes are waking up. Then on the opposite side of the world there was also an 8.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of New Zealand:
Personally, I think what we are seeing is just a warm-up to the main event. But, I wonder if there is any significance to the ‘god of Chaos’ scheduled return visit in 2068 significant? Maybe.
