The Babylon Bee is a satirical website that regularly publishes parody stories, with a humorous spin, on recent news. Its motto is simply ‘Fake news that you can trust’.

Back in October 2020, after NASA stated it had found evidence of water on the moon, The Babylon Bee immediately published a satirical story that then US President Donald Trump was preparing to launch a space navy.

Even the US Navy joined in the fun:

Of course, everyone knew this was satire, except, of course, the mainstream media. USA Today actually wrote a story declaring the space navy as fake news.

Forcing The Babylon Bee to issue a retraction:

Which it later retracted:

And this is not the only time that the mainstream media has accused The Babylon Bee of writing ‘real’ fake news. I think they hate the competition.

But The Babylon Bee has a serious side, that recently showed up in a December interview it had with billionaire Elon Musk, conducted by The Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon, editor-in-chief Kyle Mann, and former creative director Ethan Nicolle.

What many may not realize is that The Babylon Bee is a Christian ministry, and this showed up at the end of the interview when Nicolle invited Musk to become a Christian:

Babylon Bee is a Christian organization and we’re a ministry. … To make this church, we’re wondering if you could do us a quick solid and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior? … Personal Lord and Savior. It’s a quick prayer.”

So how did Musk respond?

Well, the infamous billionaire responded that he believed in “the principles that Jesus advocated.” This included turning the other cheek, forgiving others, and loving our neighbour as ourselves, stating:

“Things like turn the other cheek are very important, as opposed to an eye for an eye. An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. Forgiveness is important, and treating people as you would wish to be treated. Love thy neighbor as thyself.”

But then Musk added that he believed in Spinoza’s version of God, a deist God, not concerned about or active in the affairs of men.

But then Musk ended it with this odd statement:

But hey, if Jesus is saving people, I mean, I won’t stand in His way. Sure, I’ll be saved. Why not?

Leaving some wondering if he accepted Christ?

Though, Musk said in previous interviews that he is not a religious man, stating that he never even prayed when he nearly died of malaria in 2000.

He admitted praying in 2020 during the launch of Dragon Capsule, which is part of his SpaceX project, that hopes to provide the technology allowing people to live on other planets.

  1. Not to put too fine a point on it, but that portion of the interview was the worst example of evangelism I have seen in a very long time. I’m not sure what they were playing at, but that was a prime example of how NOT to evangelize. It was cringy and embarrassing. My sincere hope is that someone can find the opportunity to complete a true Gospel presentation with Elon Musk so that he can accept or reject with full knowledge.
