Biblical prophecy states that earthquakes will play a role in end times events.

Jesus prophesied there would be an increase in earthquakes in diverse places, which the Lord described as the beginning of the birth pangs leading to Jesus’ second coming (Mathew 24:6-8).

And in his vision of the end times, recorded in the Book of Revelation, the Apostle John saw a massive earthquake, that he described as the largest earthquake the world has ever seen (Revelation 16:18).

A week ago, the Canary Island of Las Palma, located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of North Africa, was hit by both an earthquake and volcanic eruption. According to reports, the volcano continued to erupt over the weekend. The prophet Joel warned of increased volcanic activity leading up to the Day of the Lord (Joel 2:30-31). The prophet also warned that there would be so much ash in the sky, the sun would turn dark.
