Gov DeSantis ends vaccine passports in Florida

Miami, Florida

Florida’s Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis, just passed legislation ending all local emergency COVID-19 orders effective July 1, 2021. This will override any local government lockdown restrictions demanding vaccine passports for entering a business, school or government agency.

The Blaze explains:

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) on Monday signed a bill that would ban COVID-19 vaccine passports in the state and also announced a new executive order suspending all local pandemic-related emergency orders.

Businesses, schools, and government agencies in the state are now prohibited by law from requiring people to show documentation proving that they’ve had COVID-19 vaccinations or have recovered from the virus before gaining entry to their buildings.

The bill also gives Gov. DeSantis the authority to override local health orders during a health emergency and directs state agencies to develop plans for future pandemics.

As Florida and Texas removed their lockdown restrictions, the mainstream media and health experts predicted a ground swell in new COVID cases and in fact, the exact opposite took place. Meanwhile, cases continued to rise in those states maintaining strict COVID lockdowns. Two states, New York and Michigan, accounted for nearly a quarter (22%) of America’s new COVID cases in April despite maintaining lockdowns. READ: Nearly half of new coronavirus cases coming from these 5 states

Fox News summed it up this way:

Republican-led states including Texas and Florida are reporting fewer coronavirus cases than Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York — all of which are led by prominent Democrats who refuse to roll back COVID-19 regulations and statewide mask mandates, according to CDC data.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was widely criticized by the left after he completely reversed the state’s mandate on March 10 and fully reopened his state. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was also accused of endangering Florida residents when he allowed businesses to fully reopen in September without a mask mandate in place.

While both states managed to keep case positivity rates down and begin the long road to economic recovery, Pennsylvania, New York and Michigan — who are still bound to ongoing restrictions — have led the daily increase in COVID-19 cases.
