Thomas Samuel, a direct descendant of Mohammad, the founder of Islam, recently spoke of his conversion to Christ in an interview with CBN.
Before his conversion he was actually an Imam and actively promoted the Islamic faith. However, he began to experience personal doubts about Islam.
This is happening more often in Islam largely due to the internet, which is exposing many of the Koran’s contradictions and openly challenging Muslims about their beliefs.
As a result of this struggle, Thomas became depressed, resulting in him attempting suicide by taking pills that restrict blood flow.
But in the midst of this suicide attempt, he called on God for help. When he didn’t die, Thomas wondered if God had actually spared his life or if he had just not taken enough pills.
So Thomas tried again. This time he took a much larger dose. He prayed a second time for God to spare his life. Then he went to sleep, wondering if he would wake up in the morning.
That night he had a dream.
“I saw that I am running in a very long road in my dreams. I saw a very long road – a lot of tree branches full of thorns chasing me. And, at the end of the road, there is a man standing in front of me. I called him and said, ‘please help me,‘” Thomas said in an interview with CBN’s Radical Revelations podcast. “I don’t know who He is, so He extended His hand, put it on my shoulder, and brought me before Him.”
When he awoke the next morning, Samuel realized that God had saved his life, a second time.
But who was the man in his dream that asked Samuel to follow Him. Eventually Samuel realized that this man was Jesus.
But still he wasn’t convinced.
Maybe the dream was due to things he read on the internet. So he prayed, ‘If this is not a joke, if you are really Jesus Christ, whom I have read about on this website, come to me one more time with the same details, otherwise, I will never think of you again.‘
The same dream happened again, but with a unique twist. This time Jesus actually referred back to the previous dream, “Didn’t I tell you that it is your time to follow me?”
This showed that Jesus not only heard Thomas’ prayers, but the Lord personally revealed Himself to this descendant of Muhammad.
There are examples throughout the Bible of God speaking to people through dreams. This even includes nonbelievers, such as Pontus Pilate’s wife. She had such a disturbing dream, that she sent a message to her husband warning him to have nothing to do with Christ (Matthew 27:19).
Being a descendant of Mohammad can be a big deal in Islam. Islam actually split into two major sects over this very issue, after Muhammad’s death in 632 AD.
The Sunnis who represent the majority (85%) of Islam believe that the leader of Islam should be chosen by consensus.
Shia Muslims hold that the ruler of Islam must be a direct descendant of Muhammad, specifically through Muhammad’s cousin and son-in-law Ali who Muhammad designated as his successor on his death.
Though scattered throughout Islam, Shia Muslims are primarily concentrated in Iran and Iraq.
Over the years differences have emerged between the two groups. Sunnis consider any depiction of Muhammad to be blasphemous, while Shia muslims allow and even use his image.
