There are many be reasons why the National UFO Reporting Center based in Washington DC reported that the number of world wide UFO sightings in the first half of 2025 was nearly double that of the same period in 2024. It increased from 1,492 to 3,000.
This ranges from a growing interest in the subject to a rise in the usage of drones.
But perhaps the least cited explanation is supernatural. Some Christians believe that UFOs are satanic entities manifesting in the natural realm.
This is the opinion held by Father Chad Ripperger, a Catholic exorcist, during an interview with former Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan. Ripperger serves as a priest and exorcist for the Archdiocese of Denver.
Ripperger acknowledged that there are natural explanations for most of the sightings.
“Obviously some of the UFOs can be explained, some of them, by governmental experiments and things of that sort, which people are not necessarily used to,” he said.
But not all.
Ripperger believes that many which fall in the unexplainable category are demonic beings.
This is particularly true when the Catholic exorcist hears of UFOs defying the laws of physics. When that happens, we are no longer dealing with something natural, but rather supernatural, he explains.
This is the same opinion held by Hugh Ross who founded reasons.org. He is a Christian with a Ph.D. in astronomy.
But Ripperger went one step further. He believes that some of the stories of alien abductions also fit demonic possession.
“I actually did a conference on this more recently,” Ripperger said. “Where I parse out 10 different ways in which … those abduction scenarios, if you actually look at what the ‘aliens’ are supposedly doing, is identical to the same things that demons do to people who are possessed.”
Preparing for a Spiritual Battle
He added that the aliens in these abduction scenarios often state they came to save mankind. This is a denial of the Biblical message, that Jesus is the only way of salvation.
Ripperger then pointed to a book written by Christian Apologist, Gary Bates, entitled, Alien Intrusion. Bates cited examples of supposed alien abductions that immediately stopped when the individuals called out to Jesus Christ.
If what Ripperger is saying is true, then believers need to bace themselves for increased demonic activity.
It starts with understanding our position in Christ. We are both a child of God and coheirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). The latter is particularly significant when we realize that Jesus has been given all authority in both heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18).
But in addition to this authority, we have also received power.
Because of Jesus death on the cross, the Holy Spirit permanently lives inside those who believe. As John points out, He is far greater than the evil spirit which rules the world (1 John 4:4).
Additionally we have the word of God, which serves as a sword in a spiritual battle (Ephesians 6:17).
