Are you ready for a conspiracy theory? A new one is emerging, in North America, and specifically in Canada, the United States, and Mexico.
Are you puzzled by all the arguments about trade tariffs, border restrictions, and the deportation of illegal immigrants, also known as undocumented migrants? You choose your favorite description, but it is clear that we are living in interesting times.
So, here is phase one of an emerging theory: an old idea of a North American Union, similar to the European Union, is becoming popular. The model is that Canada, the United States, and Mexico, and possibly also some smaller countries in Central America and the Caribbean, will form a union of nations.
There has also been some talk about including Greenland, recently. This union is supposed to protect the economies and the security of the member nations, in a world that is becoming dangerous and competitive. There is at least one proposed flag, for the new union, and some talk about a new currency, the “Amero.”
One well-made video includes spooky music, and detailed descriptions of the concept:
This video refers to political trends that are about twenty years old, but recent political changes has restarted the talk. We may hear more about regional collections of nations, very soon. One idea that caught my attention, is the possibility that we may see several regional collections of nations, in the modern world. One number that has been mentioned is ten national unions, including the European Union. The European experience could be a model for other unions.
This seems like a reasonable idea to many people, and I expect more discussion in the news.
In the world today, there is also UNASUR or UNASUL (in Portuguese), The Union of South American Nations, and The African Union, and of course, we have the European Union. That is four so far.
This may be a growing trend in world politics. Brace yourself.
Apparently, there is a belief that we will soon see ten communities of nations in the world. I know, some speakers have mentioned the number ten, but I apologize, I can’t find an original source for that idea.
There is an old source for the idea of ten great political powers in the world, but that is in the Bible, and I don’t think the modern politicians and activists read obscure passages in the Bible. There seems to be a convergence of old and new ideas, and we should pay attention.
About 2,500 years ago, an ancient prophet named Daniel, told us about our future, with collections of nations and concentrated political power. Notice the ten horns, which are apparently political powers in the world:
After these things, as I was watching in the night visions a fourth beast appeared, one dreadful, terrible, and very strong. It had two large rows of iron teeth. It devoured and crushed, and anything that was left it trampled with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that came before it, and it had ten horns. As I was contemplating the horns, another horn, a small one, came up between them, and three of the former horns were torn out by the roots to make room for it. This horn had eyes resembling human eyes and a mouth speaking arrogant things. (Daniel 7: 7 and 8)
About five hundred years later, another prophet wrote a book, telling us what is to come in world history. John, a follower of Jesus, wrote the book of Revelation, which is placed at the end of the Christian Bible. John also had a vision, and he also told us about the number ten:
Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, and on its horns were ten diadem crowns, and on its heads a blasphemous name. Now the beast that I saw was like a leopard, but its feet were like a bear’s, and its mouth was like a lion’s mouth. The dragon gave the beast his power, his throne, and great authority to rule. (Revelation 13: 1 and 2)
And:
The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast. They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast. They will wage war against the Lamb. (Revelation 17: 12 and 13)
So, what does this mean for us?
This may be just another conspiracy theory, but it is always interesting when modern politics turn in the same direction that ancient prophets spoke about, thousands of years ago. Modern politicians are not getting their ideas from ancient prophetic writings in the Bible.
Also, the ancient prophets had no human vision of life in our times, We are too far removed. I think it would be a mistake to overstate the case, but it is interesting..
You may be wondering; What else did those prophets predict?
1) They predicted the modern nation of Israel. Just over a hundred years ago, that was another impossible conspiracy theory. Christians, possibly including my mother, believed that the Jewish people were lost in history, and the term “Israel” in the Bible, now refers to the followers of Jesus. That idea died suddenly, in 1948.
2) They predicted a small number of political powers, in the world, and they predicted one great political and military power, one world government, with the support of the great powers, and there will apparently be ten of them.
3) They predicted that God would intervene and specifically Jesus would return, to govern the world. The great powers would oppose God, and they would lose that struggle.
One other prophet, named Jesus, gave us this direction:
Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near. (Luke 21: 28)
