A recent video of a volcanic eruption in Iceland has put a new spin on the columns of smoke, that the prophet Joel prophesied would occur in the days leading up to Christ’s return.

Columns of smoke are the trademark sign of volcanic eruptions and Joel added that the resulting ash would darken the sun and turn the moon blood-red (Joel 2:30-31).

But the recent eruption of Iceland’s Litli-Hrútur volcano on July 18, 2023 provided an interesting twist on the columns of smoke as it actually produced a tornado, the Daily Mail reports.

The Daily Mail explains how it happened:

New footage shows the twirling air column emanating from Litli-Hrútur, or ‘Little Ram’ volcano, which formed last month in Iceland’s Reykjanes peninsula.

The stunning spectacle is the result of heat from lava warming up the air above it, making the air less dense and causing it to rise.

Under the right wind conditions, this column of hot air starts to spin like a super-fast corkscrew and appear like a ‘tornado’.
