Despite small increases over the past two years, church attendance in the US has not returned to pre-Covid numbers, the Christian Post reports.
According to a Gallup poll conducted in the first three weeks of May, 2023, 31% of Americans said they attended a religious service (Christian or non-Christian) the previous week. This included both virtual (online) and in-person service attendance.
This is up from 30% who said they attended a service in 2022, but it is down from the 34% of Americans who said they attended a religious service in 2019, prior to COVID.
The survey noted that the Roman Catholic churches seem to be the hardest hit by COVID, as their attendance numbers are showing a slower recovery than protestant churches.
