32 years ago, Jesus told Eric Adams he would be Mayor of New York City on Jan. 1, 2022

Shortly after Eric Adams, 62, was elected mayor of New York City in 2021, and assumed office on Jan. 1, 2022, he began causing waves, particularly among the secularists and atheists, because of how open he was about his Christian faith.

This included a speech Adams delivered in February this year when the former NY police officer blamed the lack of prayer in schools for the problems facing our education system.

But what recently caught people’s attention was a statement Adams made this month suggesting that 32 years ago God has spoken to him that he would be mayor of New York City on Jan. 1, 2022, CBN reports.

“[Thirty-two] years ago, God placed on my heart that Jan. 1, 2022, I would be the mayor of the city of New York,” Adams said in a presentation to the Rev. A.R. Bernard’s Christian Culture Center earlier this month.

“But God said, ‘Do not be silent, because if you are silent, then when you get there, people are going to believe you stumble there,’” Adam added.

He went on to tell the audience that he wasn’t shy back then about telling people that he would be mayor in 2022, including the state’s then-Attorney General.

“Everyone I saw, everyone that I knew, those who knew me back then, Attorney General James probably thought, back then, ‘Eric must be on medication,’” Adams said.

“Everywhere I traveled to as a lieutenant and captain, I said, ‘I’m going to be mayor January 1st, 2022.’ God wanted me to allow people to watch,” Adam added.

Though God spoke to him about becoming mayor, Adams still had to fulfill his part and in 2020 started his preparations for his mayoral run.

According to a recent report in the New York Times, Jesus hasn’t quit speaking to Mayor Adams, as the Holy Spirit has been telling Adams that he needed to be more open about his faith.

“You may not have noticed, but the last few months … I have been talking about the need of God being back in our lives,” Adams said.

“And it’s because the same voice I heard 32 years ago spoke to me a few months ago and said, ‘Talk about God, Eric. Talk about God.’ We have been so ashamed of God,” Adams added.

This included declaring Thursday, May 4, 2023, as “New York City Day of Prayer.

One of the more challenging promises that Jesus gave believers is that they would hear His voice as the Good Shepherd:

26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. 27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. (John 10:26-28 NKJV)

This refers to the familiarity sheep had with their shepherd who would use his voice to call the flock to him, who would then follow the shepherd as he led them to different fields or water.

This voice of Jesus is available to all believers through the Holy Spirit as Jesus wants to call us and guide our steps today.

Now we are not hearing an audible voice, but the Holy Spirit will still speak to us.

Mayor Adams said that when Jesus spoke to him about becoming mayor it was through an impression he received in his heart, which could be looked upon as a prophetic word or word of knowledge.

Over the course of a day, we get many impressions and thoughts popping into our minds and heart.

We need to realize that some of them may include the promptings from the Holy Spirit, and it takes time for us to learn how to differentiate our own feelings and wants from the genuine voice of Christ.
