According to a recent Gallup poll, America’s trust in the mainstream has fallen to a historic low, Forbes reports.
The poll found that only 16% of US adults state they had ‘quite a lot’ or ‘great’ confidence in the mainstream newspapers, and only 11% said the same about television news.
Equally, concerning is that the level of trust is down 5% on both accounts from a similar poll taken last year.
Not surprisingly, the trust in the legacy media is highest among Democrats. In terms of television news, 20% of Democrats said they still trusted this medium, compared to just 8% of Independents and 8% of Republicans.
When it came to the legacy newspapers, only 35% of Democrats fully trusted this news source, compared to 12% of Independents and 8% of Republicans.
