Poll: 71% of Americans support restarting the Keystone XL oil pipeline

On his first day of office, President Joe Biden used an executive order to shut down the Keystone pipeline that would transport in oil from Canada. The decision, that was part of Biden’s climate change agenda, resulted in the loss of 10,000 well-paying jobs.

One year later, with gas prices skyrocketing, and Biden forced to cut Russian oil exports because of the invasion of Ukraine, Biden is now begging other countries such as Saudi Arabia to increase oil production. American officials even visited Venezuela recently to discuss purchasing oil from that communist country.

Meanwhile, America’s northern neighbor, Canada, has the third-largest oil reserves in the world, and is the world’s fourth-largest oil producer.

And now Americans are suggesting the painfully obvious may be the solution to this problem that Biden helped create. A recent poll revealed that 71% of Americans “very much” or “somewhat” support restarting the Keystone pipeline.

The Province explains:

The exclusive poll of Americans conducted by Maru Public Opinion for Postmedia found that 71 per cent of Americans think Biden should give an executive order to “green light the restart of the building of the Keystone XL pipeline that would transport oil from Canada’s oil sands region through the Midwest to refineries in Texas.

The idea that Canadian oil and gas could help fill shortfalls in Europe and the United States has received considerable traction in the weeks since Russia invaded Ukraine, with some re-evaluating energy projects such as Keystone XL and Energy East.

Meanwhile, in Canada

Alberta is Canada’s largest oil producer and its Energy Minister, Sonya Savage, said that the province could easily make up the loss of Russian oil with the current pipelines.

Meanwhile, in Michigan

Breitbart reports that Michigan’s Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel recently demanded that President Biden close down the state’s pipeline, Line 5, that supplies oil to both the US and Eastern Canada.

With gas prices already at record levels, Nessel oddly insisted this closure would not impact gas prices.

However, others don’t agree, as Breitbart explains:

Enbridge counters, however, that “Line 5 supplies 65% of propane demand in the Upper Peninsula, and 55% of Michigan’s statewide propane needs.”

In terms of costs, one study, conducted by the Consumer Energy Alliance, found that “overall, the [Line 5] closure could increase regional fuel prices by 9.5% to 11.7%, if the fallout from prior disruptions to refineries due to natural disasters is any indication,” according to the Detroit News. […]

Brendan Williams, president of the fuel supplier PBF Energy, told Breitbart News last May that closing the pipeline “would be devastating for the region” and noted that the amount of crude oil moving through Line 5 is “the equivalent of 40 percent of the crude capacity of regional refiners.”
