CNN reports that a swarm of earthquakes hit the US Northwest over a two-day period between Tuesday, Dec 7, 2021 and Wednesday, Dec 8, 2021.
Over 40 earthquakes, which ranged from 3.5 to 5.8 in magnitude, hit an area about 200 miles (ca. 322 km) off the coast of Newport, Oregon in the Blanco Fracture Zone.
This included nine quakes that were between 5.0 and 5.8 on the rector scale.
Fortunately, the epicenters of these earthquakes were far enough away that most were not noticed. But still, it caused a buzz.

Below is a breakdown of damage that can be caused by earthquakes of these magnitudes closer to the epicentre:
- 4.0 magnitude: An earthquake this large can crack walls. It will weaken trees.
- 5.0 magnitude: Furniture will move in homes, and it can damage poorly constructed buildings.
- 6.0 magnitude: At this level, walls can collapse. Fireplaces are particularly vulnerable. Depending on the quality of construction, damage can range from moderate to heavy.
Of course, the Bible’s apocalyptic literature makes several mentions of earthquakes increasing in numbers and intensity in the end times (Mark 13:8; Revelation 8:5).
And there is one coming, that is described as the greatest earthquake to ever hit the earth (Revelation 16:18).
