The image of Christians being fed to lions in the Roman Colosseum is common in our modern culture. We know what a Christian martyr is, but it’s not all ancient history. Many Christians are killed for their faith in modern times, and the news media doesn’t often tell us about this.
In East Africa, recently, a man was killed because he decided to be a Christian; he decided to follow Jesus. This execution by stoning was recorded by a media source in Liberia, in West Africa. The pictures are graphic, and they show a brother in Christ dying for his faith.
“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Matthew 10: 28 to 31)
