According to an article on Fox News, the movement to defund (reduce spending) on police is gaining momentum with celebrities predictably jumping on side. Los Angeles and New York mayors have already announced that funding for police will be cut in those cities.
But there is even a push to see the police completely dismantled, as might happen in Minneapolis, where the city council says it has a super majority support to do that. This means that the Mayor, who wants to keep the police, couldn’t veto the proposal.
CNN recently interviewed Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender and asked her the obvious question on what would happen once the police was dismantled in that city:
CAMEROTA: “What if in the middle of the night my home is broken into. Who do I call?”
BENDER: “Yes, I hear that loud and clear from a lot of my neighbors. And I know — and myself, too, and I know that that comes from a place of privilege.” pic.twitter.com/WhubQ9yJIf

Bender went on to say that because some people fear calling the police for help, no one should be able to do it. Bender is not talking about reforming police, she is talking about completely getting rid of them.

Host Alisyn Camerota asked, “But to be clear, you’re not talking about reform. The word dismantle is intentionally different than reform. This is more than reform. This is dismantling. I mean, activists who support this are calling this a police-free future.”
Bender said, “Yeah, and you know, a lot of us were asked if we could manage a future without police back in 2017 when we were running for office, and I answered yes to that question.
