A new Gallup poll released on Wednesday (Aug. 5, 2020) suggests that 61% of Blacks in America do not want funding for police cut and 20% implied that they actually wanted the funding for police increased. Actually the question Gallup asked was this: Do people want to “maintain or increase” the police presence in their neighbourhoods? But in my mind that was ultimately a question on police spending, without wording it directly.
A recent poll conducted by Pew Research discovered that an overwhelming percentage of American DO NOT WANT the police defunded. In fact, more Americans (31%) want to see funding for the police increased than those who want to see funding for the police decreased (25%).
With demands by left-wing radicals to defund or fully dismantle police, a horrified grandfather told reporters “We need more police” after his 11-year-old black grandson was killed at an “anti-violence” cook out. With the calls to dismantle or defund the police, we only have to look to New York City, run by Mayor Bill de Blasio, to see what such a future holds. On June 15, 2020, Mayor de Blasio dismantled his undercover cop division. These were police who guarded the streets of New York in unmarked vehicles. Because of this, criminals and their ilk had to be careful because they never knew where the police were. However, once de Blasio ended this undercover division, due to the calls to disband the police, things have only improved [sarcasm]. And that pattern seems to be holding true for those screaming to have the police dismantled. Seattle Democrat Mayor Jenny Durkan has announced the city will be dismantling the CHAZ/CHOP Paradise Lost experiment after the recent shootings in the seven block zone taken over by left wing extremists. They had allegedly turned the area into a no-police zone. It’s a confusing time to watch politicians as they respond to crisis. On one hand they were threatening to throw people in jail for breaking COVID lockdown rules while at the same time releasing hardened criminals from jail because they might catch the coronavirus.

According to an article on Fox News, the movement to defund (reduce spending) on police is gaining momentum with celebrities predictably jumping on side. Los Angeles and New York mayors have already announced that funding for police will be cut in those cities. But there is even a push to see the police completely dismantled, as might happen in Minneapolis, where the city council says it has a super majority support to do that.
