‘Deaths of Despair’: Study says lockdown will kill 75,000 Americans

According to a study by Well Being Trust (WBT), an estimated 75,000 people will die as a direct result of the Coronavirus lockdown. The study describes them as “deaths of despair.”

WBT adds that the best case scenario is only 27,500 deaths directly attributed to the lockdown with the worst case being 150,000 deaths. The study states the bulk of deaths will be the result of suicides and drug overdoses due to the economic upheaval and social isolation caused by the lockdown.

The study stated:

“Unprecedented economic failure paired with massive unemployment, mandated social isolation for months and possible residual isolation for years, and uncertainty caused by the sudden emergence of a novel, previously unknown microbe.”

An Australian study, reported earlier, believes the number of deaths from suicides because of the lockdown could be ten times higher than the deaths attributed to the Coronavirus in that country. It states the mental health fallout from the lockdown will continue on for years, long after the coronavirus has subsided.
