Who would Solomon choose?

When he was good, he was very good, but when he was bad, he was very bad. During his good days, King Solomon, the son of David through Bathsheba, was considered among the wisest men in the world (1 Kings 4:30).

A political survey conducted in 2020 may have a startling connection to one of King Solomon’s decisions that revealed his wisdom.

In early January, a group called The College Fix had the University of Massachusetts-Lowell Center for Public Opinion survey Democrats living in New Hampshire eligible to vote in the Democratic New Hampshire primary. They wanted to find out how Democrats felt about President Trump winning a second term as President in 2020.

They were asked if they would prefer President Trump winning the 2020 presidential election over a meteor that would wipe out all life on the planet earth.

According to the survey, 64% of the 400 Democrats surveyed would rather have a meteor “extinguishing all human life” over President Trump winning a second term as the US President. The numbers varied a bit by sex and education with 69% of women preferring a life extinction event compared to only 53% for men and 66% less educated Democrats preferring a meteor compared to only 58% of the more educated democrats.

The Democrats feelings on Trump were so extreme that a third admitted that it had affected their relationship with other people.

So what does this survey have to do with the wisdom of Solomon?

Well, there is a story that is eerily familiar.

Two prostitutes living in the same house were sleeping with their infant children and during the night one rolled over and smothered her child. The woman whose child had died then secretly switched her dead infant with the living baby from the other woman as she slept (1 Kings 3:16-28).

The next morning that mother realized immediately that the dead child was not hers and appealed the case to King Solomon. With no witnesses, it was just her word against the other woman.

How would Solomon know who was the rightful mother?

Solomon ordered the child cut in half and with one half given to each woman.

The woman who had stolen the child was fine with that. If she couldn’t have the child, she preferred the baby dead.

The real mother was the exact opposite. She wanted the other mother to have the baby instead of seeing her child killed.

Based on their reaction, Solomon immediately knew who the legitimate mother was.

So it seems that many New Hampshire Democrats would prefer the entire world destroyed, if their party is unable to win the next presidential election?
