Actress Alexa PenaVega (nee Vega) recently shared an Instagram post on how prayer raised her 93 year-old-grandmother from the deathbed.
This past week has been a struggle for my family as our beautiful abuelita (grandma) was on life support. It has been a bitter sweet experience. Here is this woman who has had such a full and beautiful life… 93 years old…12 kids… more than 50 grand kids…10 great grand children… just the most incredible little Colombian woman inside and out. This week her lungs collapsed. Her heart started failing. Her stomach stopped working and she fell into a coma. As we all prepared ourselves to say goodbye my family’s local church members came to her side and prayed over her for over five hours. When I say the power of prayer can bring forth the most amazing miracles THIS WILL FLOOR YOU. Our abuelita Yeya woke up completely healed. The Dr.’s cannot find anything wrong with her. They can’t explain it. They keep running tests to try to make sense of it all. But we know… God’s grace is what healed her. It is miracles like this that remind me of how great our God is. Thankful for every extra day we get to live. #miracles#blessings
Alexa PenaVega, 28, first stepped into fame playing the role of Carmen Cortez in the three movie Spy kid series and in 2003 Vanity Fair nominated her as one of Hollywood’s hottest teen stars.
Since then she has gone on to act in several TV shows including ER, Chicago Hope, and even a guest role on one my favorites — Royal Pains. She has also had roles in over 40 movies and in 2015, Alexa participated in Dancing with the Stars where she, along with her pro-partner Mark Ballas, finished sixth.
She married actor/singer Carlos Pena Jr. in a 2014 ceremony in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and the two joined their last names to form a new family name PenaVega. Carlos who is from Guatemala is also a committed Christian.
In an interview with Christian Post, Alexa shared the importance of faith to both her and husband, but admitted transitioning a child star was difficult, and she didn’t always make the right decisions about what roles she accepted.
She says that her faith now plays an important place in what roles she accepts.:
“My faith is hands down the number one thing, above career and family.. “It’s number one for both me and my husband. We have been able to really keep each other in check.
I think that’s so important – especially in this business and living in California. It is so easy to fall into the typical trap that everybody falls into, but I have such an awesome group of people in my life that really keep me grounded and we help each other grow. It’s tough every single day, but worth it.”
As Christians in Hollywood Alexa added that there are those who support people of faith but there are others who clearly go out of their way to mock Christians and this can make it difficult for believers.
Alex and Carlos also have a YouTube Channel (LexLovesLos) where they vlog and it even includes a devotional entitled WOW — Words of Wisdom. I shared one of their video devotions on prayer at the beginning of this post.
