In nearly every culture in the world, there are a stories from their ancient past of a massive flood that wiped out the world — from Eskimos in the Northern Arctic to aborigines in Australia.
According to an article in the Washington Post, the Chinese have a story of a flood that covered their mountains and hills. Ancient Chinese emperor Yao wrote:
“The flood is pouring forth destruction. Boundless and overwhelming, it over tops hills and mountains. Rising and ever rising, it threatens the very heavens.”
Compare his account to how Genesis describes Noah’s flood:
18 The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. (Genesis 7:18-19 NASV)
Recently archaeologists uncovered evidence of a massive flood that hit China about 4,000 years ago. This included the remains of small children trapped by the waters.
Their dating would put it in the time frame of the flood that took place in Noah’s day.
Though they believe this flood was due to a build up of water caused by the blockage of a river by an earthquake, such an event would not fit Yao’s description of a flood covering the hills and mountains.
Nevertheless, we should not be surprised by the similarities between Yao’s description and the Genesis record, because as we understand the Biblical account, Noah and his family were the only ones spared.
As a result all cultures and nations started from sons of Noah — Ham, Shem and Japheth. As their descendants spread throughout the world, they would tell stories around the campfire of a catastrophic flood that wiped out mankind.
Of course, the story would change over time and adjusted to fit their culture, but the basic facts would stay the same. Curiously, the Chinese account says that China started after the flood, which fits the Biblical narrative.
Two of the sons of Ham were Cush and Canaan (Genesis 10:6). These are the people who inhabited the Middle East and eventually all of Africa. The Psalmist describe Egypt as existing in the land of Ham (Psalm 105:23).
A cuneiform text at the British Museum in London, England tells an epic tale of a massive flood recorded by the Summerians who are descendants of Ham. Similar to Noah’s flood, people and animals were saved by a going into a large boat. However, the Sumerian text said the boat was round.
But what stunned Irvin Finkel, who worked to decipher the text, was the discovery that the cuneiform also said the animals went in two by two.
But aside from these stories, there is also physical evidence supporting the story of Noah’s flood. In an article on Christian Headlines, Ken Ham founder of Creation Museum says:
“There are thousands of feet of Flood sediment all over the globe — evidence of a catastrophic global Flood and they [scientists] are not prepared to look at that because they are indoctrinated to believe that that was laid down over millions of years.”
But there is other evidence this flood as well including:
Buildings at the bottom of the Black Sea
Archaeologists have found human settlements 95 meters down at bottom of the Black Sea. An article about the discovery on the National Geographic website writes:
“Off the coast of northern Turkey, 311 feet (95 meters) below the Black Sea, explorer Robert Ballard has discovered remains of an ancient structure that was apparently flooded in a deluge of biblical proportions. The find may lend credence to a theory that a Black Sea flood gave rise to the Noah story and other flood legends.”
They tried to explain that this massive localized flood was behind the story of Noah and notice they even acknowledge the other flood stories.
But do they really believe that flood in the area of modern Turkey explains the flood stories in China, South America, Australia and the Canadian arctic?
Massive forest at the bottom of the North Sea
Or does that Black Sea flood explain the discovery of a massive forest at the bottom of the North Sea. Recently storm off the northern coast of England shifted the sands revealing the stumps of forest that stretches from England to Europe covering thousands of acres.
Where did all this water come from to cover this area that was once dry land?
Human settlements at the bottom of the English Channel
Does a regional flood explain the discovery of human settlements at the bottom of the English channel. Using an advanced deep sonar scan, Ancient Human Occupation of Britain project (AHOB) not only found remains of human habitations at the bottom of the channel, but discovered evidence the channel was created by a massive flood.
This rewrote the text books, because for decades scientists traditionally believed slow land erosion and rising seas caused the separation between England and Europe.
Speaking on behalf of AHOB, Professor Chris Stringer said:
“This could have been one of the most power flood events known on earth.”
Ironically, the article explaining the discovery on The Australian website is entitled: Biblical-style flood tore Britain from France.
Noah’s ark was big enough
Then there was a group of physics student at the University of Leicester who made headlines two years ago. After studying the dimensions and wood used, they concluded Noah’s ark was more than large enough to hold all the animals of the world.
In fact, they were a bit surprised by the results of their study saying:
“You don’t think of the Bible necessarily as a scientifically accurate source of information, so I guess we were quite surprised it would work. We’re not proving that it’s true, but the concept definitely would work.”
Huge oceans beneath the surface of the earth
Or how about the discovery of massive oceans of water beneath the surface of the earth.
In their article published in Science, Northwestern University geophysicist Steven Jacobsen and University of New Mexico seismologist Brandon Schmandt reported they discovered a huge layer of ringwoodite 700 kms (400 miles) below the surface of the earth.
Ringwoodite soaks up water like a sponge and they said if just 1% of this ringwoodite contained water, it would represent an ocean three times larger than all the water in our surface oceans.
Though most of us traditionally believe Noah’s flood was caused by rains that hit the earth for 40 days and night, the Bible says there was also water gushing out from beneath the surface of the earth.
10 It came about after the seven days, that the water of the flood came upon the earth. 11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on the same day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the floodgates of the sky were opened. 12 The rain fell upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. (Genesis 7: 10-12 NASV)
Notice how it says it came up from the “great deep” and the waters burst out in massive fountains. The exact circumstances that would gouge out a channel separating England from Europe.
Since Genesis list these fountains first, this implies that they were the largest source of water.
The evidence for a world-wide flood is there if you want to believe.

Update 2021: Mysterious Vanishing of Advanced Chinese Civilization 4,000 Years Ago Finally Solved Nov. 29, 2021:

excerpt:
“After a single innovative millennium, the Liangzhu culture mysteriously collapsed around 4,300 years ago, and the ancient city was abruptly abandoned.
Exactly why has never been fully understood, although many have suggested some form of catastrophic flooding led to the sudden decline.
“A thin layer of clay was found on the preserved ruins, which points to a possible connection between the demise of the advanced civilization and floods of the Yangtze River or floods from the East China Sea,” explains geologist Christoph Spötl from the University of Innsbruck in Austria.
“However, no clear conclusions on the cause were possible from the mud layer itself.”
Now, we have a clearer picture of the deluge that drowned this astounding place.”
“Using the Bible, well-documented historical events, and some math, we find that the Flood began approximately 4,359 years ago…”
