After a period of global warming, top scientists are now wondering if the earth is entering a cooling phase.
This claim comes on the heels of NASA satellite images revealing a 60% increase in ice coverage in the Canadian arctic in a matter of a few months. The photos show nearly 1 million square miles of ice have been added to the Arctic since August of last year.
In an article published in The Telegraph, University of Wisconsin Professor Anastasios Tsonis said: ‘We are already in a cooling trend, which I think will continue for the next 15 years at least. There is no doubt the warming of the 1980s and 1990s has stopped.” Tsonis has a Ph.D in Meteorology from McGill University in Montreal.
The rapid ice increase caught a number of sailing ships and other recreational vessels off guard. They were recently trying to sail through the Northwest passage in the Canadian arctic. Sailors have been navigating this passage successfully for the past decade.
According to reports, 22 vessels were affected. A number were forced to turn back. They were the lucky ones. Those that pressed ahead are now trapped in the ice and many sailors are abandoning their ships.
The Canadian coast guard is apparently considering possible rescue attempts. The coast guard does provide ice breaking for commercial vessels, but it is uncertain how quickly it will respond to recreational vessels.
It has been widely reported the earth’s warming trend stopped about 15 years ago and temperatures have basically been in a holding pattern. The recent NASA photos suggests a cooling trend may be on its way.
The Bible’s end-times message of shaking
Through out the Bible, there are a number of passages saying the end of the age (also referred to as the Day of the Lord) would be marked by a shaking of both heaven and earth. This shaking is not something caused by man such upheavals due to wars. Rather it is a shaking that will occur in the earth and heavens themselves.
For thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Once more in a little while, I am going to shake the heavens and the earth, the sea also and the dry land. – (Haggai 2:6 NASV)
And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.” (Hebrews 12:26 NASV)
