One of the most powerful verses on prayer is found in 2 Chronicles 7, where God promises to forgive sin and heal the land if people will humble themselves and prayer.

If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV)

But what makes this promise so unique is that not everyone has to participate. God is not calling for the nation to turn to God, just the believers.

And if past revivals are any indicator, God is not even requiring every believer to be involved. The Welsh revival of 1904 started in the small town of New Quay when young people gathered for prayer after a church service. Many of them were just teens. But that meeting was preceded by hours of prayer led by Evan Roberts.

The resulting revival that spread throughout the UK and the world saw tens of thousands saved.

Many are wondering if the Holy Spirit is once again stirring in the island nation. If so, it seems this move is flying beneath the radar as it’s often referred to as the ‘quiet revival,’ CBN reports.

One small, but significant example of this, involved an all night prayer and worship event at a London church.

For the past several months, Saint Church in Hackney, a borough of London, has been holding a prayer meeting twice a month for its young adults.

On the first weekend of May, over 2,000 young people attended an all night prayer meeting at the church. The event featured, worship, prayer and what the church’s pastor, Al Gordon, described as a spirit of “deep repentance.”

The all night prayer meeting was a collaboration between three churches, Saints Church, Imprint Church and King’s Cross Church. The prayer meeting started at 7 pm and ran to 7 am.

But organizers noted that something unusual took place at the meeting which Gordon described as having a “sense of holy Awe.”

Despite the prayer meeting officially ending at 7 am, about 500 young people did not leave and continued in prayer.

There was a thick and heavy sense of God’s presence. Dozens giving their lives to Christ, healing, freedom. Moments of extraordinary weight and glory,” said Gordon in an interview with Relevant Magazine. “Singing like I’ve never heard: passion, raw, hunger.

Hours where the band could not lead, but the singing continues. Spontaneous power falling on people. Sometimes profound silence. Other times shouts, groans, weeping,” Gordon added. “One thing is certain: we are witnessing a profound and sovereign spiritual moment.”

If you will make room for the Lord, call on him while he is near, he will come and meet you,” Gordon continued. “You can’t orchestrate this, all you can do is humble your heart, go low, cry out for the heavy rain, and he will come.”

But this isn’t the only indicator that the Holy Spirit is stirring in the UK. A survey conducted by YouGov found that 12% of those living in England and Wales attended church at least once a month in 2024. This is a 56% increase over attendance in 2018.

The group showing the largest increase were young adult males, aged 18 to 24, where 21% stated they attended at least once a month.
