Private electric vehicle sales are falling dramatically around the world. In fact, private sales have fallen 25% in Britain in January 2024, compared to the same month last year. The only thing pumping up the numbers are government purchases.
Even rental car companies are staring to dump their EVs, because no one wants to rent them.
While environmental fanatics like to blame Mr. Bean, yes Mr. Bean, for the decline, the owners of EVs say there are multiple reasons why they are not replacing their EVs with a second electrical vehicle, the Daily Mail reports.
First is the dramatic drop in the used value of the vehicles, which is not based on the condition of the vehicle or the number of miles you have driven, but rather the age of the batteries. One owner said he bought his EV brand new two years for £38,000 and having only driven it for 14,000 miles (ca. 22,531 km) and two years, it is now worth only £18,000.
Others state that the insurance for their EV has doubled. This is because the slightest damage to the vehicle can result in the batteries needing to be replaced. Since the cost of replacing the batteries often exceeds the price of a new vehicle, the EVs are typically written off for minor damage.
EVs are also double the weight of regular cars, and rapidly wear out the tires. One owner had to replace his tires after only driving 13,000 miles (ca. 20,921 km).
Others cite the dramatic fall in battery life in cold weather, and others stated that wet weather can also damage an EV’s electrical system.
Aside from the constant worry about whether an electrical charge station will be nearby when your battery is running low, the costs of buying electrical power outside your home is often higher than that of fueling gas vehicles. At this point, most governments are not even adding the equivalent gas taxes to the price of charging an EV, even though their excessive weight is causing more wear and tear on roads, than gas vehicles.
And if that wasn’t bad enough, Rowan Atkinson (AKA Mr. Bean) used one word to describe EVs in an editorial he wrote last June, which has the environmental crowd in a complete dither. He described EVs as ‘soulless.’
MEANWHILE IN CANADA: NDP bill would prescribe jail terms for speaking well of fossil fuels
From the National Post article:
“An NDP bill is seeking to criminalize the ‘promotion’ of fossil fuels, and prescribe jail time even for Canadians who say scientifically true things such as how burning natural gas is cleaner than burning coal.“
