When we enter into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, our bodies literally become temples as the Holy Spirit now resides inside us (1 Corinthians 6:19).
Through this, the Holy Spirit also provides us with a variety of gifts such as prophecy, discernment, and healing, allowing us to minister to others.
One of those revelatory gifts includes the word of knowledge, where the Holy Spirit provides divine insight about a situation, that we otherwise would not know.
I wonder if this gift was activated in a recent incident involving a lost boy in Alabama, USA.
Phenix Wilkerson, a 4-year-old red-headed boy, was reported missing by his parents at around noon on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024. He had wandered away from his family, who were at a campground near Clayton, Alabama, the Daily Mail reports.
The news was concerning because Phenix is also autistic and unable to communicate, and was shoeless when he wandered away.
After search parties had been scouring the area for nearly two days, there was still no sign of Phenix by Sunday. Concerns were increasing, because it was raining, and the temperatures had fallen below freezing.
But when, Markeith Williams, 25, a local mechanic woke up on Sunday morning (Jan. 14, 2024), he believed God spoke to him that he and his wife needed to join the search.
But before going out, he called up his aunt who was an evangelist to have her pray for him over the phone.
‘I had my auntie, she’s an evangelist, pray for me before we left,’ he said reports AL.com, ‘because I said it wasn’t going to work if she didn’t.’
What happened next suggests the Holy Spirit was a big part of this.
As members of the search group he and his wife had joined veered off in different directions, Markeith felt impressed to continue searching in a wooded area.
By what was happening inside him, Markeith sensed he and his wife were near the lost boy.
“As I was getting closer to him, my heart started rushing so that’s how I knew I was getting close,’’ Williams said. “I knew it was God with me.”
Minutes later, he saw something lying on the ground ahead and as he got closer, Phenix heard him approaching and sat up.
Phenix was found at 3:15 PM Sunday, 50 hours after he went missing. The young boy was rushed to hospital and appears to be in good condition, considering he was cold and without food or water for two days.
In summing up his participation, Markeith said that he had become involved, ‘because God sent me to do that.’
Not only had God called Markeith to look for the boy, but I wonder if the Holy Spirit was also guiding him and his wife as they searched.
A similar thing happened in 2021. Tim Halfin was attending a Friday night Bible study when somebody asked for prayer about a lost boy.
Tim, who was unaware of the situation, felt the Holy Spirit immediately impress on him that he needed to join the search.
Similar to Markeith, Tim ended up searching in an area that others hadn’t considered because it was five miles away from where the three-year-old boy had gone missing.
Though Tim had originally asked to remain anonymous, Don Sowell, the County Sheriff, had this to say:
“I had several good visits with him [Halfin] and thanked him for being there. He replied that God told him at Bible study yesterday evening to go look for him and he would find him. This morning the man did just that and the rest is a happy ending to this story.”
