According to Blacklock’s Reporter, the Canada’s Department of Employment is continuing to discriminate against Christian organizations when it comes to handing out Summer job grants for students.

From Blacklock’s Reporter:

The Department of Employment continues to discriminate against Christian employers applying for Canada Summer Jobs grants, Church petitioners have written the Commons human resources committee. A federal judge three years ago ruled Christian employers could not be singled out for hectoring: ‘Groups are being flagged because of their beliefs, not their actions.’

Background

In 2018, the federal government changed its application form for those applying for funding under its summer student program and required them to check a box that indicated they supported abortion rights.

In 2018, when the Right to Life Association of Toronto (RLA) applied for funding, it refused to check off its support for abortion and for the first time in several years did not receive funding.

The individual who would have been hired had RLA been approved under the program sued the government, stating that his Freedom of Religion rights guaranteed under the Canadian charter had been violated.

It was also argued that the federal government was trying to compel speech by forcing people to agree with abortion.

In 2021, the court ruled that though the person’s rights guaranteed under the charter had been violated, it wasn’t that significant and ruled in favor of the government.

However, the bad publicity forced the government to adjust its form and remove the checkbox requiring an outward support of abortion to receive funding.

Instead, it required that those individual who are hired under this program are not allowed to work on anti-abortion projects, which again disqualified most pro-life groups.

Prolife people also pay taxes, and this was just another example of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s divisive politics that is dividing Canadians.
