Britain’s Methodist Church has issued new ‘inclusive language’ guidelines for its churches, including calls to repent from using the terms husband and wife to describe a husband and wife, the Christian Post reports.
Yes, it actually called people to repent.
The church leaders explained in their guide, “As Christians, we need to have the courage for conversations that can sometimes be difficult, to recognize that we sometimes exclude people, to listen with humility, to repent of any hurtful language.”
Instead of using terms such as husband and wife, the church insists that people should use words such as parent or partner instead.
It seems that God’s ten commandments were not enough, and the Methodist leadership has decided to add a few more to the list.
Not surprisingly, the Methodist Church in Britain has seen a steady annual decline in membership over the past several years as its liberal agenda increasingly makes it irrelevant.
The following provides a breakdown of membership in Britain’s Methodist church by selected years:
- 2022: 137,000 members
- 2020: 164,000 members,
- 2019: 170,000 members
- 2016: 210,427 members
- 2014: 225,731, and
- 1990: 425,000
In 2010, Reverend David Gamble, who was then heading Great Britain’s Methodist, suggested that the church should merge with Britain’s Anglican Church, as the Methodist denomination was heading to extinction.
