Hans Schmidt, a 26-year-old preacher from Arizona, is in the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the head, the New York Post reports.

Schmidt who was just recently married is the outreach director for Victory Chapel in Glendale.

He was preaching on a busy street corner in the city when the shooting took place. Though in critical condition, there have been some hopeful signs about his condition and the church is requesting continued prayer.

At this point, police are uncertain if the Schmidt was specifically targeted or whether it was just a random attack.

However, a person who works in the area stated that he had seen people screaming and saying hateful things at Schmidt as they walked by while he spoke.
