Because of the failure of politicians to deal with wanton crime and drug abuse, the City of New York’s health department issued a news release encouraging citizens to carry NARCAN when they go out in the streets, WND reports.
Naloxone is the active ingredient in NARCAN which is used to counteract the effects of opioids such as fentanyl.
Some opioids, such as fentanyl, are so dangerous that they can cause a severe reaction by simply coming into accidental contact with the drug.
In its news release, the New York Health Department Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan stated, “This crisis is killing a New Yorker every three hours and is impacting every individual and family in our city and in our nation. No one is spared, even if you think otherwise. If you use drugs, know someone who is using drugs, or might be around drug use, there are simple steps we can take.”
“First, everyone should carry naloxone, get trained to use it and to recognize the signs of overdose,” Vasan said.

Fentanyl use is increasingly out in the open, and increasingly fatal. But New Yorkers are divided over what to do: decriminalize it or make more arrests.
Dealers are also becoming more aggressive and are selling their drugs openly with little fear of punishment as they are often released the next day because of the city’s soft-on-crime policies.
The Daily News provides information on a recent drug bust in New York City:
“As fentanyl overdose deaths are at crisis levels in New York City, he was allegedly hauling 13 kilos of the drug — the equivalent to potentially lethal doses for about 6.5 million New Yorkers.”
