According to a recent survey in Central America, Evangelical Christianity is now the largest religion in the region beating out Roman Catholicism, Evangelical Focus reports.
The 2023, conducted by M&R Consultores found that 42% of Central Americans identify as Protestants with Evangelical Christianity easily dominating this category, while only 40% identified as Roman Catholic.
The survey also found that Evangelical Christians are more active in their faith than Roman Catholics. This includes:
- More active Church participation, 47% for Evangelicals compared to 21% for Catholics,
- A greater commitment to reading their Bible and prayer, 47% for Evangelicals compared to 25% for Catholics, and
- Higher giving with 68% of Evangelicals stating they tithe compared to only 25% for Catholics.
The countries included in this survey were Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panamá, Costa Rica, Honduras, and El Salvador.
