A street preacher in Reading, Pennsylvania was handcuffed and arrested after quoting a Bible verse at an outdoor Pride event, CBN reports.
Matthew Wear who was just passing by was able to catch the arrest on camera. According to Wear, the street preacher, Damon Atkins, had just started speaking on a sidewalk across the street from the Pride event, when a police officer, Sergeant Bradley T. McClure, ordered him to stop preaching.
When Atkins refused and started quoting 1 Corinthians 14:33, “For God is not a God of confusion but of peace,” he was immediately arrested and prevented from finishing the verse.
With a video of the arrest and circumstances that led up to it, many believe Atkins’s arrest was a violation of his First Amendment Rights including Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion.
Atkins told CBN that he was charged “with criminal disorderly conduct with engaged to fight.” However, the video seems to suggest otherwise.
I suspect a lawsuit is pending.
