The Daily Mail reports that 29 people are dead after gangsters armed with machetes attacked people attending a Christian rally in Liberia, a country located on the Western coast of Africa.
Most of the deaths, including 11 children and a pregnant woman, were caused by the stampede as people tried to flee the attack. The death toll could rise as several of the wounded are in critical condition.
The prayer rally, held on Wednesday, Jan 19, 2022, was organized by an influential pastor and took place at a soccer field located on the coast near New Kru Town.
Liberia has a population of just over 5 million and 86% of them are Christian.
