Girl Guides forced to delete Tweet about Amy Barrett

The left wing trolls who inhabit the surreal universe of Twitter forced the Girl Guides of America to delete a tweet congratulating Amy Coney Barrett on her nomination to the US Supreme Court. She is the fifth woman to be nominated and the Girl Guides thought this was an achievement that should be celebrated.

I guess not.

Writing for the Gatestone Institute, Alan M. Dershowitz explains:

I don’t know why I am so mad at the Girl Scouts for having withdrawn their Tweet congratulating Justice Amy Coney Barrett for being the fifth woman nominated to the Supreme Court in its long history. The Tweet was anything but partisan or political. It was a girl’s organization dedicated to educating young women about their unlimited possibilities in life. The Tweet itself was innocuous. Here is what it said: “”Congratulations Amy Coney Barrett on becoming the 5th woman appointed to the Supreme Court since its inception in 1789.”

It was accompanied by a collage of photographs of the five women who have served on the high court – three of them liberals and two conservatives. But when a few angry leftists led by Cambridge U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley and actor Amber Tamblyn complained, the Girl scouts quickly removed the Tweet and apologized for doing something that could be “viewed as a political and a partisan statement.”

But there is some good news. Twitter shares dropped 20%, not because of earnings because they are up, but because the number of people subscribing to Twitter is starting to plateau. People are concerned about the long term health of Twitter.

Market Watch reports:

Twitter posted a profit for the third consecutive quarter, with its $134 million in net income equating to 13 cents a share. […]

Even as executives talked about Twitter’s bright future on the earnings calls, investors appeared to react to Twitter’s slowing user growth, as its monthly user count went south, falling by 1 million to 355 million, as compared with the year’s first quarter.

Note this was above and beyond the million or so fake accounts that Twitter also recently deleted.

Of course, if Twitter continues to censor those on the right, don’t be surprised if they start going elsewhere. READ: FEC data shows Twitter is even more slanted toward Democrats than Facebook: 99% of 2020 election donations have gone to Democratic candidates
