With Seattle city council preparing to bend the knee to a small group of left-wing extremists calling for defunding the police department, hundreds of Seattle resident expressed their outrage in response.
The council is considering cuts to police spending of upwards of 50%.
Yet, the council has a perfect example of how Seattle will look if the police department is defunded. The city’s mayor, Jenny Durkan, initially defended the CHAZ zone, a six block area taken over by radicals who declared it a no-police zone. However, Durkan was eventually forced to initiate an emergency order to dismantle CHAZ after crime in the area increased by over 500%.
Yet despite this disastrous no-police zone, social experiment, that resulted in several shootings and deaths, the council is still charging ahead with plans to reduce police spending.
The Daily Wire explains:
Infuriated Seattle residents thronged to the phones on Wednesday to blast the city council’s plans to slash police funding by as much as 50%. The council is scheduled to vote on the issue within the next two weeks.
“The Seattle City Council heard from hundreds during Wednesday’s budget meeting as members get closer to a vote on whether to defund the police department by 50 percent, a decision that could lead to the firing of hundreds of officers … One day after launching a ‘Stop Defunding’ petition, the Seattle Police Officers Guild said they already collected more than 20,000 signatures,” Q13 Fox reported.
Many of the callers pointed out that the council is listening to a couple of hundred left wing extremists instead of the vast majority of Seattle residents.
