Was Jesus referring to another time dimension?

I am not going to pretend for a moment I understand this, but researchers from the US and Russia claim they have reversed time. No this did not involve Back to the Future’s DMC DeLorean time machine, it was part of an experiment involving the bizarre world of quantum physics.

We live in a linear world. We all chug down the same path getting older. We can’t stop that process. We can’t reverse time and get younger.

But it seems that the rules that govern our world don’t apply in the world of Quantum physics involving the bizarre subatomic world inside atoms.

Their experiments, published in Scientific Reports, involved “wave” study. Basically subatomic particles travel out like waves do on water when you toss in a rock. The more time that passes, the further away the waves are from their original starting point.

This same rules apply to particles. However, in their experiment the group was able to reverse this process, and have the particle appear at its starting point instead of where it should have been.

They basically caused a broken teacup to return to its original form, before it was broken. They are not suggesting that they necessarily reversed time, or maybe they did.

Physicist Itzhak Bars from the University of Southern California (USC) has a theory. He believes there is another dimension of time. In an interview with The Telegraph, Bar said “There isn’t just one dimension of time. There are two. One whole dimension of time and another of space have until now gone entirely unnoticed by us.”

Essentially, he believes there is another realm or space, where time works differently. Bar goes on to say in that realm “time is no longer a simple line from the past to the future.”

Though his opinion is not widely accepted among physicist, because it could lead to time travel, Bars believes his theory explain some of the major conflicts in Quantum physics.

But this discussion leads us to some interesting Bible passages. The Bible says there is another realm besides our physical realm. It is called the spiritual world where God and His angels exist. And it seems that this realm is governed by different rules of time.

The Apostle Peter writes:

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. (2 Peter 3:8 NASV)

God exists in a timeless realm where one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like one day. It is a realm where there is no linear time as we know it and the past, present and future are all merged into one.

Oddly, this may have been exactly what Jesus was referring to in several strange statements recorded in the Gospels:

18 Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven. (Matthew 18:18 NASV)

23 If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them [literally ‘have previously been forgiven’]; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained.” (John 20:23 NASV)

In these verses, Jesus says if we bind something in the present world, they will have previously been bound.  So this makes me wonder if the actions we take in our physical, linear world can have a profound reversing impact in the spiritual dimension where there is no time. If this is true, it may have an impact on spiritual warfare.

Then Jesus says if we forgive someone in the present, they will have previously been forgiven in the past. This implies in the spiritual realm the forgiveness extended to those who offended us goes back to the moment it happened or even before, making it like it never took place. Since Satan has the authority to influence us when we don’t forgive (2 Corinthians 2:10-11), this may also have a spiritual warfare aspect to it.

And maybe this is what the Apostle Paul was talking about when he says that Christ is seated at the right hand of God and all things are subject to Jesus (Ephesians 1:19-23).

And then Paul adds that we as believers are now seated with Christ (Ephesians 2:6).

Now I have looked at sitting with Christ in a linear fashion and thought it pointed ahead to the end of the age.

But in the spiritual realm, where time does not exist, Paul is saying that future event has already happened and is happening now. We may be walking around on earth, but in the spiritual realm, we are already seated with Christ.

Which leaves us with this question: what reality will you believe?

  1. There is no time shift and there are no dimensions. God created the universe big (vast) not complicated!
Matter and Space contribute to the existence and the function of the universe, time does not contribute to these ! Time merely gives man the possibility to mentally observe the length of the events that take place in the universe and admire the perfection by with God created man’s place of exile.
The consequences of sin found Adam and Eve leaving the spiritual word they knew as Paradise and the arriving to the material world that we know as the universe. It was Matter that gave birth to Space and then Matter and Space together gave birth to time. Mater Space and time were necessarily for life in the absence of God for they provided the nessesary means for the logic needed in order to survive when God withdrew His presence (Hid Grace) from them. The Holy Fathers of the Greek Orthodox Church teach that the Grace of God that was doing everything for Adam and Eve in Paradise, was replaced upon their exit from paradise with their logic!

    The Characteristics of TIME
TIME was born along with the appearance of mater (big bang)
TIME accompanies events while they are in progress (expansion)
TIME will stop, when no more events are taking place (Our Lords Second Coming)
In the absence of matter (in a void) it is physically impossible to create or measure time! This existence dependency of time on matter can be resembled like a shadow on a wall of a man walking by that comes to being because the man who walked by and created it. No man no shadow no matter no time!
Even if one theoretically managed to turn all the planetary systems running backwards (in order to make the shadow on the wall walk backwards) (time travel), TIME would record that event forward because of the way it comes to existence which is by movement …by regardless of direction.

    God, Man and Time!
There are 2 ways to realize time. The first way is to realize a second that includes all eternity, and this is God’s time (always present) and the second way is to experience eternity as man knows it in God’s time which is one second (God’s second)!

The Physical characteristics of TIME in relation to Time Travel
The use of TIME can be resembled with the use of stethoscope that reads the beats of the heart but cannot intervene or influence the way the heart works or functions!
    God bless

    • Thanks for your comment James. I am certainly not being dogmatic about this article. But the passage in Peter suggests that God is obviously not affected by time as we know it. But is there room for this to include the idea that the spiritual realm is also unaffected by time? I don’t know.
